A few changes are in store for the highway department crews and DPWs that make their annual pilgrimage to Syracuse for the N.Y.S. Highway & Public Works Expo Oct. 20.

First, bring your appetite. Whereas lunch was customarily served in the Heroes & Legends Café in the Americraft Center of Progress Building, this year lunch will be served on the actual floor of the exhibit hall. The renowned Dinosaur Bar-B-Que will be cooking up its famous ribs and fixin’s throughout the morning and afternoon. The Americraft Center will never smell better.

With budgets as tight as they are these days, how much will this cost, you may ask. Nothing; lunch will be free. Just stop by the following exhibitors at the show to pick up your complimentary lunch tickets: Stadium International Trucks, Stephenson Equipment, Tracey Road Equipment, Trux Outfitter/Fisher Engineering and Vantage Equipment. They’ll be happy to provide you with your tickets and of course, to tell you all about how their products and services will help you get your work done

Another change for this year’s show is that there will be no Snowplow Roadeo. The event has probably run its course over the years. All of you are expert operators and the real challenge and the genuine mark your excellence is the long hours and compliments you earn from your residents. No staged event can recreate that.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the steady supply of door prizes, which will be awarded throughout the expo. Grand prizes this year will be two grandstand tickets to the NASCAR Watkins Glen race in August 2011, including two pit passes. And a pair of Jim Kelly Club tickets to watch the Buffalo Bills take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010.
