October 2016
Craig Mongeau - October 2016
When we have time on the weekends, one of the things that my family and I like to do is to go to farmers’ markets. The eclectic selection of shops and food stands at a lot of these markets is a really nice alternative to the shopping malls and strip malls and even online shopping. It’s still fun to be able to see the things you might want to buy in person — you actually get to pick them up, try them out, talk to people. Go figure. Who knew that was still possible to do when you hear about Amazon’s insane profits?
At these farmers’ markets, we also see a pretty wide range in ages of the people there shopping. There’re some of the more seasoned shoppers like myself, but also a lot of kids and young adults. It’s great to see that the younger folk still like to get out of the house and away from their devices for a little bit (well, maybe not away from their phones, though).
Trade shows are a bit like farmers’ markets and this month’s N.Y.S. Highway & Public Works Expo in Syracuse on Oct. 19 at the Center of Progress Building in the New York State Fairgrounds is certainly similar. There, you’ll have the opportunity to check out a host of equipment and services offered by more than 100 exhibitors and they’ll be more than happy to chat with you and answer all of yours questions about what they have to offer.
What makes this better than a farmers’ market, however, is that you’ll have the chance to win some pretty cool prizes, including two grand prizes: a pair of Jim Kelly Club tickets to see the Buffalo Bills take on the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 24 and two grandstand tickets to NASCAR’s Watkins Glen Race in August 2017, including two Pit Road passes.
Another great feature of the upcoming expo is the free lunch, thanks to Stadium International Trucks, Tracey Road Equipment, Trux Outfitter and Vantage Equipment, our lunch sponsors.
In this issue, please see page 50 for a comprehensive listing showcasing all the latest and greatest in equipment and industry services that’ll be covering more than 75,000 square feet of exhibitor space.
We look forward to seeing all of you there October 19.
